August 2009

 Dear Parents,

I am very excited to be teaching fourth grade this year.  My name is Mrs. Pound and this is my fifth year teaching at Rainbow Christian Academy.  I enjoyed teaching third grade last year and fifth grade before that.  I look forward to meeting new students this year and also welcoming back some familiar ones.

My life has been influenced by the field of education in many ways.  I am blessed to have parents who taught elementary school for over forty years.  I graduated from the University of Central Oklahoma and then taught pre-school for ten years.  When I moved to Florida the Lord gave me the opportunity to teach elementary at Rainbow.  I have been so fortunate to work with teachers and administrators here at Rainbow that constantly encourage both professional and spiritual growth.

This year I am privileged to be partnering with Mrs. Watkins.  We will be team teaching.  This means that I will be teaching Reading, Science, and Spelling.  Mrs. Watkins will be teaching Language, Creative Writing, and Math.  As home room teachers we will both be teaching our own Bible and History.  We are very excited about this opportunity and we are confident that the students will benefit greatly.  I am also excited to say that once again our technology is growing by leaps and bounds.  I have been given a student interactive Promethean learning system.  Each student will have their own responders. This will help them stay engaged and focused on each lesson.

Fourth grade Reading will begin with a Salute to Courage.  We will be focusing on flow and expression during oral reading.  Critical thinking skills will also be stressed throughout fourth grade.  Students will learn to draw inferences and make evaluations from the reading materials. Students will also develop increased comprehension skills.

Science takes us on a journey to explore many of God’s amazing creations.  We begin learning the importance of observation in science.  Our first subject matter will be insect life.  We will learn about their defense mechanisms, how they communicate, their social behaviors and much more.  Quizzes will be given frequently along with tests at the end of each chapter.

Fourth grade Spelling will start out with twenty five commonly misspelled words and then move up to thirty words per list.  Each list will include five to ten vocabulary words.  This will greatly benefit students struggling with reading comprehension.  Spelling homework will be given each night.

Before I close this letter let me say that I am praying that God will use me as a blessing in the lives of my students and their families this year.  I know that sacrifices are often made to afford private Christian education and I feel honored to be entrusted with such a responsibility.  Please continue to pray with me for the success of this school year.

In Christ’s Love,

Mrs. Pound
