  Spanish Class

Dear parents,

The Spanish classes had an exciting beginning in the new school year. I can see the students are more eager to participate and speak Spanish in class.

The kindergarten is an enthusiastic bunch. They are enjoying the new Spanish songs, learning to describe the weather, greet others, introduce themselves, counting 1-10 and saying goodbye.

The first grade is reviewing the weather, using appropriate greetings, introducing themselves and incorporating commands for the classroom and good words of manners.

The second and third grades are practicing weather and calendar vocabulary. They are using expressions to introduce self and introduce others, incorporating new commands for the classroom, and expressing their feelings.

The fourth graders this year are going to a more advanced level. They are going to have more responsibilities with their home work. They are starting the series “Hola”.

We are beginning with the practice of useful questions and expressions for the class. They will be practicing weather expressions, introductions, feelings, and identify classroom supplies. I recommend that the students have a binder where they can store study guides that are going to be provided to support their homework and to prepare for tests and quizzes.

The fifth grade will be practicing useful questions and expressions for the classroom, asking and describing the current weather, calendars, their favorite season, asking what someone likes/dislikes, telling how much they like to do something. Also using numbers in every day situations and asking someone about state of well-being and feelings.

The Middle School is working in the unit “De Viaje” , a topic that talks about travelers and people in the travel business. The students will be practicing vocabulary about planning a trip, talking about different travel destinations, discussing what you and others do on vacation. In the grammar aspect the students will be conjugating verbs ar, er and ir, and the use of irregular verbs. In the cultural aspect the students will be identifying places and points of interest for visitors to Spanish Speaking countries.

Encourage your kids from fourth grade and up to memorize one Spanish Bible verse every month. For every verse memorized they can get A+ in Spanish along with helping them to pronounce and build sentences as they record God’s word in their minds.

The Bible verse for September is John 14: 6

“JESUS LE DIJO: YO SOY EL CAMINO, LA VERDAD Y LA VIDA; Y NADIE VIENE AL PADRE SINO POR MI”   Juan 14:6

It’s a joy teaching your children,
