Dear Parents,

The beginning of a new school year is always exciting! I hope everyone is well rested, refreshed and ready for another great school year. I want to start by welcoming you and your child to my class. For those parents who do not know me yet, I would like to introduce myself to you. My name is Ms. Poggys and I am very happy to be your child’s Pre-K teacher.

I have been with the Rainbow Christian Academy family for the last 19 years. I have three wonderful children. My son Nick is 29, Doug is 26 and my daughter Angela is 22. We have attended the Warriors for Christ River of Life Church for the past ten years.

This year your child will be learning a lot of new things. It is my goal for them to receive a high quality education in a loving atmosphere. Please be here by 8:00. This will ensures that your child can properly prepare for the day ahead. Class will begin promptly at 8:15.

The first week of school we will be practicing the procedures for lining up, sitting up straight, having good hand washing habits and bathroom habits, as well as, answering politely.

What we will be learning this year:

We start everyday with Bible. Bible is the most important time of our day, because it is important to teach children that God loves them and that He is their friend. At Rainbow we teach children stories that show God’s love, grace and mercy, as well as, songs that will glorify the Lord and the recitation of memory verses.

In phonics your child will learn to recognize the sounds and formation of the consonants and short vowels. Reading circles begin in January. Your child will begin the reading process by reading blends and three letter words containing a short vowel. By Spring Break your child will be able to read short sentences! I am looking forward to this!

In numbers they will learn to count from 1 to 100 and recognize and conceptualize the numbers from 1 to 20. Language development consists of listening skills, as well as, teaching your little ones manners and how to develop good health habits. In penmanship your child will learn how to write each letter and their names in cursive. For language enrichment your child will learn many opposites such as: hot/cold and full/empty.

We will have science every Monday, show and tell every Tuesday, computers on Wednesday, and crafts every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Special snacks and cooking classes are enjoyed once a week on Wednesday.

We have a very busy schedule of events this year, so please be sure to check your monthly school calendar often for important events and activities. Also lunch is very important. Please be sure to pack your child a nutritious lunch such as a sandwich and fruit. Please do not send your child soda or candy.

Each day be sure to check your child’s cubby for a complete change of clothes and also any papers that are to be taken home. These papers can be found in the clear plastic folders. Please take the papers out and return the folder to class the next day. A small blanket may also be kept in the cubby for naptime: Remember to label all blankets and clothes.

If you ever need to contact me, please call the office and leave me a message at (305) 258-0194. I will return your call as soon as I can.

May God bless and keep you all in His care.

In our Lord’s love,

Ms. Poggys
