Mrs. Castellanos's K-4 Class

Lunch Menu         Preschool Home             Dear Parents, Are you ready for a brand new school year? I hope everyone had a summer full of fun, whether your family spent time in the sun, enjoyed the company of others or just relaxed and enjoyed the time off. My name is Maritza Castellanos and I have been blessed to be a part of the Rainbow ministry for the past 16 years. I have a wonderful husband and two incredible children. My son Christian is 3 years old and is attending Rainbow for the first time this year. My daughter Angelina is 15 months old. In all my years of teaching, I have noticed that children in many aspects are similar. All children have the desire to be loved and to learn. Here at Children’s Rainbow Day School is where God has placed the desire in my heart to work. It is an environment focused on learning and teaching God’s love, and it is where I long to be. It is with warmth and passion that I look forward to another wonderful year in K-4. I thank Rainbow and every parent for granting me the opportunity to enlighten the hearts and minds of each of my students as they learn about our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. What we will be learning this year: We start everyday with Bible. Bible is the most important time of our day, because it is important to teach children that God loves them and that He is their friend. At Rainbow we teach children stories that show God’s love, grace and mercy, as well as, songs that will glorify the Lord and memory verses. In phonics your child will learn to recognize the sounds and formation of the consonants and short vowels. In numbers they will learn to count from 1 to 100 and to recognize and conceptualize the numbers from 1 to 20. Language development consists of listening skills, as well as, teaching your little ones manners and how to develop good health habits. In penmanship your child will learn how to write each letter and their names in cursive. Reading circles begin in January. Your child will begin the reading process by reading blends and three letter words containing a short vowel. By Spring Break your child will be able to read short sentences! I am looking forward to this! For language enrichment your child will learn many opposites such as: hot/cold and full/empty. We will have science every Monday, show and tell every Tuesday, computers on Wednesday, and crafts every Monday, Tuesday and Friday. Special snacks and cooking classes are enjoyed once a week on Wednesday. I am very excited about this up and coming school year and I look forward to being able to work with each child and his/her family to make sure it is successful and memorable year. You will receive a calendar outlining the fun filled activities for each month; it is important that you look at it regularly so that you don’t miss out on all the activities.
