The Foundation for Instruction

The basis of our curriculum is ABeka Book materials. The ABeka Book curriculum is effective, creative, and instills academic excellence along with spiritual growth in every subject. In preschool and kindergarten (K4 and K5) ABeka is used for all subjects, supplemented by unit studies (visit the preschool area). For grades one through seven Abeka curriculum is used in Bible, Penmanship, Reading, Spelling, History, Science, and Health. You can see the topics covered each year, 2 year olds through seventh grade on the ABeka Scope and Sequence Chart.

What is a day in Preschool like?

Short intervals of daily teaching include the following:

distinguishing between initial phonetic sounds
recognizing number of objects and concepts of numbers
social development
practice in language arts: speaking in sentences, finger plays and poetry
relating what is seen in pictures verbally
distinguishing colors
creative coloring, drawing, and painting
special art projects
cooking
music: singing, rhythm, and instrument fun
manuscript writing (2-3) and cursive writing (K-4)
basic phonics
reading circles and memory verses
plenty of play time

Grades 1 Through 5

Mathematics

Beginning in first grade, students use the Saxon math curriculum. This method has drastically improved problem solving skills in grades 1 - 5. To view skills and methods for the Saxon math series, click on this link to their web site: Saxon Math

Language Arts

After a solid phonics approach with ABeka, students use Shurley Method Language for learning grammar and composition skills. Creative writing and literature units also complement the Shurley Method. Shurley Method Language website

Middle School

In our middle school students will use the ABeka, Bob Jones, Shurley Method language, Saxon Math, and Accelerated Reader. Students are taught by 3 or 4 teachers who are experts in their subjects. In addition to the core subjects, all middle school students have P.E., computers, and a science lab hour. Students may elect to take Choir, Band, Spanish, French, hospitality, life management, and other electives as staff allows. The main form of communication with parents is through the "agenda", an assignment book that the student should carry from class to class and record all projects and assignments. Teachers will also note in the agenda if an assignment was not done.
