Dear Parents & Students, I would like to welcome you to a new year at Rainbow Christian Academy. All of us here at RCA are very excited for this new school year to begin. My name is Amy Whitney and I will be the 7th grade Homeroom Teacher. I will be teaching 6th, 7th & 8th grade Science and Science Lab’s, 8th grade Life Management and Pre-Algebra. My husband Joe Whitney and I have lived in Homestead most of our lives. My husband works at Century 21 in Homestead. We have been married for 20 years and have two children. Matthew graduated from 8th grade here at Rainbow last year and Meghan is in 6th grade. I have earned my Bachelor’s degree in Education and certification in Middle School Science and have CPR and First Aid certificates. The Lord has pulled me towards a career in education since I was very young. With Gods guidance my passion for teaching has been realized. I began teaching at a small church school and have been very fortunate to have worked at Rainbow Christian Academy for the past seven years. This will be my tenth year teaching children. Each year is special because of the children God places in my classroom. I am very excited at the many educational bonuses’ we have planned for this years’ middle school students. Our new laptop middle school promises to provide our students with an exceptional educational experience. All of our middle school science students will be using our new Pearson interactive science and math textbooks. An exciting year is planned for our students with all the many hands-on and virtual science experiments (and learning).
Our 8th grade science class will be covering space and earth science. We will be learning about God’s many wonderful creations, including our earth and the universe. This is a 9th grade science course and the students will receive full credit for this class when entering high school next year. In our preparation for high school many of the activities the students will be focusing on will include note taking and study skills. The 7th grade science class will be covering life science. Beginning with breaking down cellular structure and working through the plant kingdom and finishing with the animal kingdom. We will also dissecting various animals this year. A large goal during science is proficient note taking skills, which we will be building throughout the year. During our Thursday Life Management class our 8th graders will be working on many facets of life, including peer pressure, positive attitudes and even community service projects. Throughout the year we
will be having parent teacher meetings and I will send home information
monthly in my letters. If you have any questions please send a note with
your student or phone the office and leave a message. I am able to return
phone calls after 3:30 each day. The quickest and easiest way to reach me
new in my new Email account,
a.whitney@rcacrusaders.com
and I will return any messages later that day. We are all here striving to
help build your child into a Christian leader who will be able to make a
stand for Christ in our community. May the Lord bless and
keep you always. Sincer Mrs. Whitney
